Late Rally Gives Santa Ana 13-12 Win at Cypress

CYPRESS, Calif. –  Adam Cendejas completed the Santa Ana comeback with a single to center field to bring home two runs, putting Dons up 13-12 in the eighth inning of Tuesday's game at Cypress College. The Dons held on to win their first Orange Empire Conference game of the season, snapping a six game losing streak in the process.

After the Dons earned a 4-0 lead three and a half innings into the game, the Cypress Chargers woke up with a four run bottom half to tie it. They then took the lead with another eight runs in the bottom of the fifth.

It looks as though Santa Ana would take another tough loss in a high scoring affair but the team responded with three runs of their own in the sixth inning to make it a 10-9 game with plenty of outs left.

Cypress scored a run in both the sixth and seventh innings to but it wasn't enough to keep the Dons down, as they rallied for four runs and the lead in the top of the eighth. Juan Gonzalez and Nathan Flores both doubled to bring home one run each and then Cendejas took care of the rest with the go ahead single to cap the inning off.

Closer Cole Hoskins was then handed the ball to shut the door on the Chargers, going two innings with three strikeouts for his third save of the season.

Game two between Santa Ana and Cypress has been rescheduled for Wednesday, at 2:00 p.m. at Cypress College.
