SAC Athletics Mourns the Loss of Alum Seth Smith

SANTA ANA, Calif. - Santa Ana College Athletics mourns the sudden, unexpected loss of baseball alumnus Seth Smith.

Smith played two seasons for the Dons between 2010-2011 and was an important contributor to a couple of Orange Empire Conference championship teams.

The lefty out of Mater Dei High hit .295 with six runs batted in and 10 runs during his freshman year. In his sophomore season he played a big role in the Don bullpen, finishing with an ERA of 4.87 with 17 strikeouts which earned him a scholarship to Cal State San Marcos.

Smith was not only a good baseball player but a great person and teammate.  "He was one of the most personable guys on our team and an awesome teammate," said former SAC Baseball Head Coach Don Sneddon. "He was a joy to be around everyday. He did all the intangibles, came to practice every day and was invaluable for our team. He wasn't your average leader but led by who he was. You love to have players like that."

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Smith family and all of Seth's teammates at SAC and Mater Dei High School.
