Perez Lifts Dons to Win with Walk-Off Single Against Saddleback

SANTA ANA, Calif. - The Santa Ana College Baseball team got back into the win column with an 8-7 walk-off win against Saddleback (9-12, 5-8) in the first of its four game series on Tuesday afternoon. 

Shortstop Cedrick Perez recorded his third hit of the day when he singled up the middle in the ninth to bring home Nick Lopez and gave the Dons (10-10-1, 8-5) the win.

Perez finished 3-4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Lopez added another three hits for the Dons while scoring three runs with a run batted in. And Griffin Selby proved that he belongs in the clean up spot with a four hit, two RBI day. 

The Dons also benefited from the return of All-OEC infielder, James Williams, who finished 2-4 with a crucial RBI double to left center field in the eighth inning.

On the mound, Shane Carey got the start and gave up five runs (none earned) over three innings of work. Emmanuel Niebla, Cesar Aguilar and Cole Samuels kept the Dons in reach, combining for three strikeouts in four innings before handing the ball off to Cole Samuels who got the win with a two inning, four strikeout performance.

Santa Ana will be back in action for game two of the series at home on Thursday afternoon. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. and will be livestreamed on Youtube.
