Men's Soccer Plays El Camino to 1-1 Tie in Season Opener

SANTA ANA - The men's soccer team opened the 2014 season with a 1-1 tie with El Camino College in a non-conference match. The tie gives the Dons a 0-0-1 record to start the season while El Camino moves to 0-0-3 with its third tie of the season.

Jorge Muratalla scored the first goal of the match when he took a cross from Carlos Martinez in the 43rd minute. Muratalla quickly collected the ball and took the shot near the far post to open scoring.

El Camino would come back in the second half with the equalizing goal in the 60th minute. Brayan Surio took a pass from Victor Guerrero past the defense and beat the Dons keeper one-on-one for the goal.

Both sides had one more scoring opportunity apiece with the Dons effort sailing wide of the goal while El Camino's shot was turned away by Dennis Hernandez as he made one of his three saves. For El Camino, Jose Sanchez made five saves to put the Warriors in position for the tie.

Next up for the Dons is another home match as they host Oxnard College on Friday, September 5 at 4:00 p.m.
