SANTA ANA - When it was all said and done, each team managed one solid scoring opportunity apiece but only the Dons were able to take advantage of their as they defeated Irvine Valley College 1-0 in an Orange Empire Conference match.

The Dons (8-2-4, 4-2-1) opportunity came in the 66th minute when Gary Carbajal controlled the ball on the end line and sent a pass to the front of the goal. Jorge Muratalla found the ball and touched it into the goal for the only score of the game.

Irvine Valley (3-8-3, 2-5-0) seemed poised to score the equalizer late on its only shot on goal. Sean Goode got past the Dons defense on a long pass and fired a shot on goal. But Dennis Hernandez got just enough of the ball with his hand, deflecting it up before it hit the cross bar and sailed out of bounds.

That was the only save made by Hernandez while his counterpart, Elias Licea, made four saves with one goal allowed.

The Dons stay home for their next match when they host first place Golden West College on Friday, October 24 at 3:00 PM.
