SAC Softball Holds Off No. 8 Fullerton for 3-2 Upset

FULLERTON, Calif. - Alyssa Armijo singled to drive in the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth inning and the Santa Ana Softball team held off No. 8 Fullerton (13-5, 6-2)  to complete a 3-2 upset on Saturday afternoon.

The Dons (11-13, 7-5) got to work early with Sierra Griego coming up with a two RBI single to give them the lead in the top of the second.

Fullerton answered over the next three innings with two runs of their own to tie the score at 2-2 before Armijo came through in the clutch to put the Dons up for good.

Sophomores Jojo Westerfield and Jayleena Perez added to the Dons offense with two hits a piece.

Ale Guzman got the start for the Dons and held her own over three innings. The freshman pitcher from La Quinta High struck out one batter and conceded just two runs for the no-decision. Katie Neal was inserted in the fourth and went four scoreless innings to pick up the win for SAC.

The Dons earned a much needed win to boost their RPI in their pursuit of a playoff berth and kept things interesting in the Orange Empire  (OEC) standings.

SAC will continue OEC play on Monday when they travel to Saddleback (12-10, 2-6). First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
