Dons Unable to Keep Pace with Irvine Valley in 4-1 Conference Loss

SANTA ANA - The Dons lost their sixth-straight Orange Empire Conference match following a 4-1 loss to visiting Irvine Valley College. The Dons are now 2-10-1 on the season and 0-7-1 in conference play while the Lasers improve to 7-2-1 overall and 4-2-0 in the OEC.

The Lasers got the first goal on the board in just the second minute Ashly Romero sent a pass through the Dons defense to the left side of the field. The pass found Tiana Salazar who had a shot at a nearly open net for the goal that put IVC up 1-0.

But the Dons would hold the Lasers to the 1-0 score through halftime before getting the equalizing goal in the 54th minute when Makenna Roa found Kristina Alatorre at the top of the box. Alatorre then dribbled past the Lasers defense for a shot and the tying goal.

However, a pair of fouls just outside the box doomed the Dons as Madisen Hammonds scored back-to-back goals in the 56th and 61st minutes respectively. Hammonds took the free kick on both fouls from the left side, quickly putting the Lasers up 3-1. Yasmin Hart would score the fourth goal for IVC in the 81st when she beat the Dons defense one-on-one before beating the goalkeeper for the goal.

In goal for the Dons was Katie Delgado who saved four of the eight shots she faced in 90 minutes. Shannon Duffy made five saves for the Lasers while allowing one goal in 90 minutes.
