Dons Use Offensive Explosion to Pick up First Win at Home in 9-4 Victory over Fullerton

SANTA ANA - The Dons picked up their first home win of the season with a 9-4 win over visiting Fullerton College in an Orange Empire Conference match. The win improves the Dons to 3-14-2 on the season and 1-11-2 in conference while Fullerton falls to 2-15-1 overall and 2-11-1 in conference.

The Dons offense came out with a flurry, scoring seven goals in the first half after scoring just five goals in all of their previous Orange Empire Conference matches. Kristina Alatorre set up the first two goals with assists to Syprus Ohanesian and Brianna Cruz.

The third goal was scored by Jessica Reyes on an assist from Tiffany Martinez before Cruz scored the Dons fourth goal on a corner kick. The fifth goal was scored on a header by Michelle Zepeda with Martinez assisting before Cruz' corner kick was headed in by Alatorre for the sixth goal.

The seventh, and final, goal of the half was also scored by Alatorre who caught up to a long pass from Martinez before scoring on a long shot.

But the lead wouldn't remain that large for long as Fullerton started a second-half comeback with four goals in less than 10 minutes. The Hornets first goal came in the 53rd minute and was scored by Jessica Lee before Ariana Fleischman scored three goals for the Hornets in the 54th, 58th and 62nd minute. Natalia Vasco got an assist on the second goal with Allyson Tovar getting the assist on the third goal.

The rally, however, was stopped short as the Dons added two more goals to make the final score 9-4. Reyes scored in the 66th minute with Martinez assisting before Zepeda scored the final goal on an assist by Reyes.

Priscilla Suarez recorded three saves in goal for the Dons without allowing a goal while playing 73 minutes. The Hornets had Chantal Hagan in goal and she allowed all nine goals while making five saves.
