SANTA ANA, Calif. - Hauze Fragoso had one of his best pitching performances of the year to lead the No. 4 seeded Santa Ana Baseball team to a 2-1 win over No. 21 College of the Desert (25-15) in game one of their California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) SoCal Regional matchup.
The freshman right hander gave SAC (27-14) eight innings of work while conceding just one unearned run while striking out five to earn the win.
His counterpart, Kenny Keller, was just as good as he held the Dons to one run in the first seven innings of the game. Keller threw 116 pitches and struck out five to hold up his end of the pitcher's duel.
But in the eighth, Santa Ana was able to break through after COD was finally forced to go to their bullpen.
Mario Tostado took advantage of the opportunity and squared up a ball that just missed the scoreboard for a solo home run to give the Dons the lead.
With a one run lead in the ninth, Joey Iglesias was inserted and walked away with his second save of the year.
Despite scoring just two runs, the Dons made some solid contact throughout the game and finished nine hits. Jimmy De Anda, Mario Tostado and Mikey Rocha collected two hits each while Matthew Dobson collected one of the two runs batted in on the day.
Game two will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning at Santa Ana College. If needed, game three will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game two.
