Santa Ana Baseball Advances to Championship Monday with 13-4 Win Over Saddleback

FOLSOM, Calif. - The winner's bracket of the 3C2A Baseball State Championships featured a couple Orange Empire Conference teams with Santa Ana College matching up with the Saddleback Bobcats on day two of the tournament.

Despite falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Dons quickly weathered the storm and took control to knock off the Bobcats by a score of 13-4.

Santa Ana posted three runs in the second inning on RBI singles from Marc Schavone, Matthew Dobson and Christian Thompson. They added a few more in the fourth and sixth innings while holding off the Bobcat bats by turning three double plays in critical moments.

In the eighth, the Dons exploded for eight runs capped by a grand slam off the bat of Mikey Rocha to put the game out of reach for good.

Jaxton Andeel got the start and went 4.1 with three strikeouts while Rocco Gurrola earned his second consecutive win as he finished the last 4.2 innings. The two lefties combined to give up just 10 hits and four runs while striking out three.

We will see a rematch between these two teams on Monday as Saddleback bounced back in the third game of the day to defeat Sierra College 10-4.

First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m. and game two of the day will follow 30 minutes after if necessary.
