Dons Use Second Half Rally to Defeat Long Beach 84-79

SANTA ANA - Isaiah Chennault and Martin Kim got hot for the Dons at the right time as the pair scored 12 points of the Dons 20-7 run that propelled SAC to an 84-79 victory over Long Beach City College.

The Dons (3-3) trailed by 12 points with 15:53 left in the game before using that 20-7 run to take their first lead of the game at 64-63 with 8:33 remaining. The Dons then grew their lead to as large as nine points before Long Beach (4-3) started a rally of its own.

The Vikings took advantage of free throws before a three-pointer by Ashton Edwards tied the game at 78-78 with 3:00 to go. Long Beach reclaimed the lead at 70-78 just 30 seconds later on a free throw by Mwelu Matayu.

But that lead wouldn't last long as Cammie Lewis hit a three-pointer with 1:14 left to put the Dons up for good at 82-79. Lewis and Terryn Large hit one free throw apiece to make the final score 84-79.

Lewis led the Dons with 20 points followed by Large with 19. Chase Miller added 13 points while Chennault and Kim scored 11 points apiece, all in the second half. Long Beach was led by Edwards who scored a game-high 24 points followed by Tyler Tuliau with 20 points. Carlos Sanchez rounded out the double-digit performances with 10 points for the Vikings.

The Dons host Cerritos next Tuesday, November 27, at 5:30 p.m.
