Dons Drop Orange Empire Conference Game to Orange Coast College 78-70

SANTA ANA - The Dons had their three-game winning streak snapped following their 78-70 loss to Orange Coast College. The Dons, who had just moved into third place in the Orange Empire Conference, drop to 15-9 overall and 5-5 in conference while Orange Coast improves to 11-14 and 2-8.

The Pirates came out with the hot hand, establishing a 7-0 lead less than three minutes into the game on four free throws and a three-pointer. The Dons answered with a 5-0 run, all scored by Raymond Barros, to cut the lead to 7-5.

However, Orange Coast would continue to lead throughout the first half, building a lead as large as 10 points at 34-24 before taking a 40-31 lead into the half. The Pirates did most of their damage in the paint where they outscored the Dons 16-10. Coast also held the advantage on the fast break in the first half, outscoring the Dons 12-4.

The Dons started to slowly chip away at the Pirates lead in the second half, getting as close as two points on Cammie Lewis' three-pointer at the 8:29 mark. But Orange Coast would pull away again, going back up by seven with four minutes left at 59-66.

Orange Coast continued to hit their free throws down the stretch before finishing the game 24-for-27 from the charity stripe, helping the Pirates to the 78-70 victory.

The Dons were led in defeat by Martin Kim who scored 16 points followed by Terryn Large and Lewis who had 14 points apiece. Raymond Barros also chipped in 13 points to round out the Dons scorers in double digits. The Pirates got a 25-point performance out of Marquis Ransom while getting another 12 points from Robert Grepo as the only two Coast scorers in double digits.

The Dons hit the road for their next game when they travel to Riverside City College on February 13.
