Dons Get Strong Performances from Kim and Large to Down Cypress

SANTA ANA - The Dons opened the second round of Orange Empire Conference competition the same way they started conference action, with a win over Cypress College. This time the Dons won by a final score of 86-71.

The Dons (13-8, 3-4) opened the game with the first five points from a three-pointer by Chase Miller and a fastbreak layup by Erik Emanuel. The hot start continued as the Dons established a 10-4 lead on a fastbreak layup by Vincent Gomez.

After Cypress (5-18, 0-7) cut the lead to two at 12-10, the Dons went on a 7-0 run to go back up by nine at 19-10. The Chargers got within two points once again before the Dons built their lead as many as 19 at 38-19.

After taking a 45-29 lead into the half, the Dons continued to cruise in the second half as they built their lead to 21 points at 52-31 less than five minutes into the half. The Dons largest lead of the game came at 23 points at 73-50 with 8:32 left before going on to the 15-point victory.

Martin Kim scored a game-high 17 points as he hit four of his eight three-point attempts. Terryn Large followed with 14 points and a game high 16 rebounds while Raymond Barros and Kevin Ramirez each scored 11 points.

The Dons hit the road on Friday when they travel to Irvine Valley College. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
