Dons Unable to Generate Offense in Loss to OCC

SANTA ANA - The Dons struggled offensively in their 8-1 loss to Orange Coast College in an Orange Empire Conference game. The Pirates (4-9, 3-4) held the Dons (7-12, 2-4) to just six hits, with four of those hits coming in the bottom of the seventh inning when the game was well in hand.

Orange Coast came out with one unearned run in each of the first and second innings before scoring two more runs in the third inning to take an early 4-0 lead. After scoring two more runs in the sixth inning, the Pirates got a two-run home run from Anna Marin in the top of the seventh to carry an 8-0 lead into the Dons final at bat.

It was in the seventh inning that the Dons managed their only run with Christina McCullogh hitting a leadoff single before being the lead out of a double play. Down to their final out, the Dons got a Madison Graham single, a Marissa Moser double and a walk to Karina Munoz to load the bases before Alexandra Hernandez plated the Dons only run with a RBI-single through the right side.

Desiree Hernandez (5-7) took the loss for the Dons as she allowed all eight runs, six earned, on 15 hits. Cayla Ezelle (1-4) got the win as she held the Dons to just the one run on six hits while retiring 11-straight batters at one point from the third inning through the sixth inning.
