SANTA ANA - The Dons dropped the series finale to Cypress College 6-2 in an Orange Empire Conference game. The loss drops the Dons to 14-17 on the season and 7-8 in conference while Cypress improves to 27-4 overall and 15-0 in conference.

The Chargers scored first with two runs coming across on one play in the first inning. After Tobi Salzman scored from third base on a sacrifice fly, Taylor Pierce came around to score from second base after a throwing error by the Dons.

Hattie Marshall responded for SAC with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning to cut the Cypress lead in half at 2-1. In the fourth inning, Christina McCullogh tied the game at 2-2 with a solo home run of her own.

But Pierce answered for Cypress in the top of the fifth inning with a two-run home run to put the Chargers back on top at 4-2 before a wild pitch allowed a run to score, making the game 5-2. Cypress scored its final run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly.

After the Chargers reclaimed the lead the Dons managed just three baserunners, both in the fifth inning, before having the final eight batters retired in order.

Marshall (4-6) took the loss for the Dons as she allowed five runs, four earned, on eight hits over 4.1 innings. Vanessa Ledesma (11-0) picked up the win in relief as she held the Dons scoreless over the final 3.1 innings.
