SAC Volleyball Fails to Upset Top Ranked Irvine Valley

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Dons Volleyball team was excited for tonight's matchup with the Irvine Valley College Lasers, who are currently the number one ranked team in the state.

Santa Ana came out and played some of their best volleyball to start the first set, staying right with the Lasers and tying the score at eight. Despite putting up a good fight, the set slipped away from the Dons as they lost 25-14.

The second set was similar to the first and resulted in the Dons going down 2-0 after being outscored 25-12. Midway through, Don libero Kayla Long provided a spark when she had three straight spectacular digs, which resulted in a huge Santa Ana point.  It was a great effort from the sophomore but it wasn't enough to keep the momentum for the Dons.

Santa Ana had one more chance in the third set but couldn't get things going, falling by a score of 25-5.

The Dons fall to 8-6 overall and 1-4 in Orange Empire Conference play after the loss. Next up for the Dons is a road match at Riverside College on Friday, Oct. 6th at 6:00 p.m.
