Dons Offense Continues to Roll in Win over LA Valley

SANTA ANA - Despite scoring 19 runs on 19 hits, the Dons found themselves needing to rally from an early deficit yet again in their 19-13 win over Los Angeles Valley College. The win keeps the Dons undefeated at 4-0 while LA Valley has its record evened to 2-2. The teams will meet again in two days at LA Valley on Thursday at 2:00 PM.

The visiting Monarchs scored five runs in the first two innings to jump out on the Dons, using six hits to grab the early lead. But the Dons came back with a five-run second inning to tie the game at 5-5. Five different Dons drove in a run in the inning as 10 batters were sent to the plate.

LA Valley reclaimed the lead at 7-5 in the top of the third inning before the Dons offense exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the third. The first nine runs came across without an out being recorded and four of the runs came in on either a bases-loaded walk or hit by pitch.

From there, the Dons scored one run in the fifth, one run in the sixth and two in the seventh to round out their scoring. LA Valley continued to score as well, with three runs in the seventh, one run in the eighth and two runs in the ninth.

Offensively, Patrick Cromwell led the way as he finished 4-for-5 with four RBI with Jeff Murray and Tommy Anderson close behind with three RBI apiece. Chris Major drove in two runs and Andrew Ramos, Colin Winn, Nathan Cervantes and Andrew Natividad each drove in one run.

Dalton Rasmussen (1-0) was credited with the win as he was the pitcher of record in the third inning. His final line was two runs, one earned, on three hits in one inning. Nathan Dominguez (0-1) took the loss for LA Valley after giving up the eighth run of the game. His line was four runs, all earned, on one hit without recording an out.
