Season Comes to an End with Loss to Orange Coast

SANTA ANA - The Dons lost their final game of the season 9-3 to visiting Orange Coast College in an Orange Empire Conference game. The loss gives the Dons a final overall record of 19-17 and a 6-15 conference mark while Orange Coast finishes its season with an 18-18 overall record and a 9-12 record in the OEC.

The Dons scored first with Trevor Steinman hitting a RBI-single in the second inning that scored Jeff Murray, who reached earlier in the inning when he was hit by a pitch. The Pirates evened the game at 1-1 in the fourth inning on a wild pitch before James McLellan put Coast up 2-1 with a solo home run in the next at bat.

Orange Coast added two unearned runs in the fifth inning with Robert Teel scoring on a throwing error before Nick Grimes, who reached on an error, scored on a sacrifice fly later in the inning.

Murray was able to cut Coast's lead in half with a solo home run in the sixth inning before Nathan Cervantes scored on Colin Winn's RBI-single in the seventh inning to pull the Dons within one at 4-3.

But Orange Coast would get a grand slam by Teel in the eighth inning to pull away to an 8-3 lead before tacking on one more run in the ninth inning to make the final score 9-3.

Guillermo Sanchez (4-6) took the loss despite allowing just two earned runs, four total runs, on five hits over seven innings. Jack Pabich (5-2) got the win for Coast as he threw a complete game while allowing three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts.
