Dons Even Series with Cypress with 5-1 Win

SANTA ANA - The Dons scored one run in five of the first six innings on their way to a 5-1 win over Cypress College in game two of their Orange Empire Conference series. The win evens the series at 1-1 as the Dons improve to 18-14 on the season and 5-12 in conference while Cypress falls to 22-10 overall and 10-7 in conference.

Tommy Anderson opened scoring when he drew a leadoff walk before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt by Colin Winn. Patrick Cromwell then drove Anderson in with a RBI-single to centerfield. Cromwell also drove in the second run when he drew a bases-loaded walk to force in Thomas Blood in the second inning.

The third run came across in the third inning with Andrew Ramos hitting a leadoff triple before scoring on a RBI-groundout by Justin Mellano. Cromwell picked up his third RBI of the game in the fourth inning when he hit a RBI-groundout that scored Anderson, who again drew a leadoff walk earlier in the frame. The fifth run also belonged to Cromwell when he scored Nathan Cervantes on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.

On the mound, Dalton Rasmussen (3-4) got the win for the Dons as he allowed just one run, scored on a two-out double in the second inning, on seven hits over six innings. Keaton Freire (1) picked up his first save of the season as he threw three scoreless innings while allowing just two hits. Henry Martinez (4-4) took the loss for Cypress as he allowed three runs, all earned, on six hits over three innings.
