SANTA ANA, Calif. – Santa Ana College's Women's Soccer team hosted Saddleback College on Friday afternoon for its second Orange Empire Conference match of the season.
The Dons were the underdogs going into the match as they are predicted to finish 6th in the OEC, while Saddleback took third in the pre-season Sports Information Poll.
After a competitive 90 minutes of soccer, the Dons came through with the 1-0 upset, improving their record to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while Saddleback drops to 3-2-1 and 0-2 in the OEC.
Linda Gutierrez scored the lone goal of the match off a corner kick just six minutes into play. The sophomore from Santa Ana High School is now tied with Karina Quintero for the most goals on the team.
The Dons defense was anchored by goalkeeper Breanna Martinez, who posted seven saves in the match.
Santa Ana will look to take this momentum into their next match which is home against Santiago Canyon College on Tuesday, Sept. 19th at 3:00 p.m.
