Dons Show Great Fight on Sophomore Day

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Santa Ana College Women's Soccer team hosted Cypress College in its last regular season home match of the season.

Sophomores Jessica Figueroa, Mykayla Mayer, Hope Alvarez, Linda Frias, Karina Quintero, Kassandra Herrera, Vanessa Ortiz and Reyna Campos were all honored before the match, celebrating their successful careers at Santa Ana College.

Afterwards, the ladies got back to business and put up a great fight against the Chargers. In the first half, the Dons were dominant and controlled the ball for most of the period. Linda Gutierrez connected with Linda Frias for a goal that put Santa Ana ahead by one just 2 minutes in.

The second half was a different story, as the Chargers fought back to tie it with a goal from Renae Francis in the 50th minute.

Santa Ana would hold their own for the rest of the match until giving up the winning goal with almost no time left on the clock.

With that, the Dons lost by a score of 2-1, falling to a record of 7-11-2 overall and 4-9-2 in Orange Empire Conference play.

The Dons will look to end the season on a good note when they travel to Golden West College on Thursday, Nov. 9th for a match at 3:00 p.m.
