Dons Shut Out Desert 6-0 for First Home Win of the Season

SANTA ANA - The Dons picked up a home victory today with their 6-0 win over College of the Desert in a non-conference game. The win improves the Dons to 2-0-1 on the season while the loss drops Desert to 0-1.

The Dons wasted little time scoring the first run with Cameron Baranek hitting a leadoff single before moving to third on a single by Alex Mascarenas. Frankie Nogales followed Mascarenas with a RBI-ground out to score Baranek.

Dillon Fetty scored the Dons second run of the game in the third inning. He led the frame off with a single before stealing second base. After moving to third on a Tanner Negrette ground out, Fetty scored on a wild pitch.

The Dons third run came in the seventh inning, again started with a lead off hit. This time it was Troy Baird hitting a lead off double before moving to third on a passed ball. Baird would eventually score when Julio Garcia hit a bloop single to left field.

Nestor Linares put the game away for the Dons in the eighth inning with a three-run home run, his first of the season. Patrick Cromwell, who led the inning off with a bunt single, and Baird scored on the home run.

On the mound, the Dons got four innings out of starter Grant Wilhelm who held Desert to just two hits while striking out four. Daniel Ferrell made his season debut in relief and got the win after pitching two innings while allowing just one hit. A.J. Franks pitched the final two innings to pick up his first save of the season. Franks struck out three while allowing just one hit.
