Dons Fall to Orange Coast College 9-3 in Orange Empire Game

SANTA ANA – The Dons lost to visiting Orange Coast College today 9-3 in an Orange Empire Conference game. The loss drops the Dons to 11-11-1 overall and 2-8 in conference while Orange Coast improves to 16-9 and 7-3.

Coast scored the first run of the game in the top of the third inning when Jeff Nellis plated Nick Grimes with a sacrifice fly before Nestor Linares put the Dons on top 2-1 with a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning.

But the Pirates would come back to score three runs in the fourth inning to reclaim the lead at 4-2 before adding two runs in the sixth and one run in each of the seventh, eighth and ninth innings. Cameron Baranek drove in SAC's third run in the ninth inning when he reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Devan Campos to score.

Grant Wilhelm (0-4) took the loss for the Dons as he allowed four runs on three hits in 3.2 innings of work. James McLellan (1-0) got the win for Coast as he pitched 3.1 scoreless innings in relief. Dominic Purpura (6) got the save as he pitched the final three innings of the game.
