Dons Swept by Golden West College after 12-6 Loss

SANTA ANA – The Dons were outscored 7-1 over the final three innings in their 12-6 loss to Golden West College. The loss drops the Dons to 13-18-1 overall and 1-14 in conference while Golden West improves to 19-13 overall and 11-6 in conference.

Prior to late-inning surge by the Rustlers, the teams were tied 5-5 with both teams holding at least one two-run lead. Golden West scored twice in the top of the first for the early lead before the Dons scored twice in the bottom of the first to tie the game.

Nestor Linares doubled in Alex Mascarenas for SAC's first run before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Julio Garcia. The Dons then took a 4-2 lead in the second inning with Mascarenas and Linares each hitting RBI-infield singles that plated Colin Winn and Cameron Baranek, respectively.

After the Rustlers added a run in the third inning, Troy Baird doubled in Winn to put the Dons up 5-3. But Golden West would plate two runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 5-5.

After both teams failed to score in the fifth and sixth innings, Golden West reclaimed the lead when Michael Fuchs scored from third on a sacrifice bunt. The Rustlers opened the game up in the eighth inning with four runs before getting a two-run home run by Jordan Lucio to round out their scoring.

The Dons final run came across in the bottom of the eighth inning when Manuel Segura scored on Tanner Negrette's RBI-single.

Lawrence Stewart (0-1) took the tough loss for the Dons despite pitching well in relief. Stewart allowed the go-ahead on run on three hits over 2.2 innings of work. Brett Mays (1-0) got the win for Golden West as he allowed two runs on eight hits over six innings of relief work.
