SANTA ANA - In a game that started off with the looks of a slugfest, the Dons used a flurry of offense at the end of the first half to open Orange Empire Conference play with an easy 6-0 victory over Cypress College. The win moves the Dons to 6-2-0 on the season and 1-0-0 in conference while Cypress falls to 2-4-2 overall and 0-1-0 in conference.

Prior to the 33rd minute, the game appeared as if it were going to come down to the wire with the Dons and Chargers getting equal scoring opportunities. However, neither team was able to take advantage of those opportunities.

That all changed when Luis Venegas found Jonathan Roman in the box for a shot. Cypress' goalkeeper momentarily made the save, but the ball rolled through his hands and into the goal. What followed was three more goals in the next seven minutes as the Dons quickly found themselves with a 4-0 lead before halftime.

In the 37th minute, Venegas was on the receiving end when Leonardo Contreras set him up for his first of two goals in the game. Two minutes later, Chris Cruz set up Contreras for a goal before Uriel Rebollar capped the rally when he scored on a pass from Omar Perez.

The Dons added two goals in the second half, the first scored by Edwin Navarrete, who bicycle-kicked a pass from Antonio Solis for a goal. Finally, the last goal found Roman returning the favor to Venegas who scored in the 72nd minute.

In goal, Luis Trujillo made two saves in 73 minutes before Edgar Bahena finished the game without facing a shot. Scott Dutton made one save for the Chargers while allowing all six goals.
