Dons Hold Off Late Rally to Defeat Norco College 4-2

SANTA ANA - The Dons used a pair of first half goals by Luis Venegas to build an early lead on their way to a 4-2 victory over visiting Norco College in an Orange Empire Conference match. The Dons stay undefeated in OEC play with the win as they move to 7-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in conference while Norco is now 5-3-1 on the season and 0-1-1 in conference.

Venegas scored his first goal early in the game when he deflected an Antonio Solis free kick into the goal in the eighth minute. But the Mustangs would come back to tie the match at 1-1 when Cesar Duque scored on a corner kick in the 22nd minute.

With just seconds remaining in the half, Uriel Rebollar drew a foul in the box that gave the Dons a penalty kick. Venegas successfully converted the ensuing penalty kick, giving the Dons a 2-1 lead at the half.

Edwin Navarrete extended the Dons lead to 3-1 in the 67th minute when he was able to get the rebound of his own penalty kick attempt and score on the next shot. The Mustangs would make a late charge as they pulled within one goal at 3-2 in the 88th minute on Alejandro Moreno's goal. But the Dons would add a fourth goal in stoppage time when Leonardo Contreras set up Rebollar for a goal seconds before the final whistle.

Luis Trujillo played the majority of the game in goal for the Dons as he made five saves in 82 minutes while allowing one goal. Edgar Bahena finished the game, allowing one goal and making one save in eight minutes. On the other side of the field, Martin Gonzalez made two saves while allowing all four goals in 90 minutes for Norco.
