Santa Ana Fights Back to Earn a 4-4 Tie

SANTA ANA, Calif. –  In a battle for third place in the Orange Empire Conference, the Santa Ana College Men's Soccer team and the Orange Coast Pirates ended in a 4-4 draw.

The match was intense the whole way through, with both teams showing their grit and combining for nine total cards.

In the first half, the Dons struck first when Christian Lopez set up Emilio Luengas for a goal just four minutes in. The tide quickly turned in favor of the Pirates, as they scored their first goal in the 10th minute and followed that with two more goals midway through the half to make the score 3-1.

Right out of the half the Dons started to fight back by scoring in the 46th minute off a free kick from Everado Serrano to cut the lead to one. Though it looked as if Santa Ana could be taking the momentum back, the Pirates wouldn't let it happen easily and countered with their fourth goal of the game just three minutes later.

With their backs against the wall, the Dons turned to Emilio Luengas who delivered his second and third goals of the day within the last 30 minutes. Luengas' heroics earned the Dons a tie to keep their third place spot in the OEC.

The Dons have now ended in a tie in their last three matches, putting them at an 8-3-6 overall and 5-1-5 in conference play. They trail Golden West College by just 5 points for second with just three matches left on their schedule.

Next up for the Dons is another home match against Fullerton College on Friday, Nov. 2nd at 3:00 p.m.
