Dons Soccer Ends with 1-0 Loss in CCCAA Regionals

SANTA ANA, Calif. –  The 2017 season ended for the Santa Ana College Men's Soccer team, as they were defeated 1-0 by the Compton College Tartars in the first round of the CCCAA Southern Regionals on Saturday afternoon.

Santa Ana was awarded the 12th seed in the state playoffs, matching them up with the number five seed in Compton College.

The Dons proved that they could play with the Tartars after holding them scoreless for the first 80 minutes. Compton would score the only goal of the match in the 81st minute when Jonathan Ortega assisted Juan Albizar for the goal.

Santa was outshot by the Tartars 13-9 with Christopher Lopez getting the bulk of the looks for the Dons with three shots in the game. Dons goalkeeper Stephen Sanchez did his best to keep Compton out of the net, recording five saves and giving up just one.

SAC ends the season with a record of 10-5-6 overall, and a 7-2-5 in Orange Empire Conference play, qualifying for the playoffs for the second straight season.
