Dons Drop 3-1 Decision to El Camino College

SANTA ANA - The Dons fell to visiting El Camino College 3-1 today in a non-conference match. The loss drops the Dons to 1-2-1 while El Camino improves to 1-3-0 on the season.

The Warriors scored the first two goals of the match on nearly identical plays. Everardo Cadenas scored the first goal in the fifth minute before Manuel Paez scored in the 19th minute. Both goals came on shots from the top corner of the box to the far post.

Jose Contreras answered for the Dons with a goal in the 34th minute when he scored on a cross from Jesse Rodriguez-Vasquez. However, El Camino would add its third goal in the 52nd minute when Paez sent a pass to the front of the goal where Edgar Esquival shot and scored for the Warriors.

That goal capped scoring as Larry Sanchez and Sergio Orozco combined to keep the Dons from scoring again for the remainder of the game. Sanchez started for the Warriors and made six saves in 84 minutes while allowing one goal. Orozco didn't face a shot as he played the final six minutes plus stoppage time.

For the Dons, Andres Figueroa allowed three goals on the three shots he faced in 69 minutes before Ismael Rivera finished the game without facing a single shot.

The Dons remain home for their match when they host Cuyamaca College on Tuesday, September 15 at 4:00 p.m.
