SANTA ANA - The Dons opened the 2014 season with an easy 7-1 victory over Los Angeles Harbor College with the help of some early errors and a strong pitching performance.

Tyler Sloan (1-0) took the mound for the Dons on opening day, throwing five shutout innings with five strikeouts while allowing just one hit. By the time he left the game, his offense put up six runs on seven hits while also taking advantage of two errors.

The Dons opened scoring in the first inning when Alex Mascarenas singled, stole second base and eventually came around to score on a throwing error. Frankie Nogales, who reached on that error, scored the Dons second run on a RBI-double by Daniel Martinez.

Later, in the fourth inning, the Dons scored two more unearned runs when Manuel Segura appeared to be caught in a rundown at third base. However, a throwing error allowed him and Cesar Serna to score, putting the Dons up 4-0.

Joshua Vargas led off the fifth inning with a double before moving to third on a single by Mascarenas. Ryan Aguilar followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Vargas before Martinez plated Mascarenas on a fielder's choice.

The Dons final run came in the sixth inning and was scored by Serna who reached on an infield single, stole second, took third on an error and, finally, scored on a RBI-double by Cody Bistline.

Harbor's lone run came in the eighth inning on a two-out, solo home run by Jordan Espino. Chris Gutierrez (0-1) took the loss for the Seahawks after allowing six runs, two earned, on six hits in 4.1 innings of work.
