SANTA ANA - The Dons used a strong offensive outing to bounce back from their first loss of the season with a 10-6 win over visiting Long Beach City College in a non-conference game. The Dons are now 5-1 on the season while the loss drops Long Beach City to 1-3.

Today's victory was anchored by a strong start by Evanne Wilkes (2-0) along with Joshua Vargas' 3-for-5 performance at the plate with four RBI. Wilkes scattered seven hits over five innings while all three runs scored by the Vikings were unearned.

Vargas' offense, along with Garret Brown and Manuel Segura, helped the Dons overcome five errors on defense. Segura also went 3-for-5 with two RBI while Brown finished 3-for-4 with one RBI. Frankie Nogales and Cameron Baranek each contributed one RBI apiece as well.

The Dons, who never trailed in the game, scored one run in the second, three in the third and two in the fourth to take a 6-2 lead. After Long Beach scored in the fifth to make it 6-3, the Dons put up four runs in the fifth, highlighted by a three-run double by Vargas, to establish a 10-3 lead.

The Vikings came back with a three-run sixth inning, but Matthew Grier and A.J. Franks combined to shut out the Vikings over the final 3.1 innings. Neither pitcher allowed a run while Grier allowed just one hit and Franks two.
