Dons Have Highest Offensive Output of Season in 14-2 Win over Ventura

SANTA ANA - The Dons offense put up big innings early and often in their 14-2 win over visiting Ventura College in a non-conference game. The win improves the Dons to 9-3 on the season with just one non-conference game remaining before Orange Empire Conference competition begins next Thursday.

The offensive surge began in the first inning as the Dons put up three runs on three hits, highlighted by a two-run single by Garret Brown. The hitting continued into the second inning with the Dons getting two more hits, one of them a grand slam by Philip Anderson.

The fifth inning was another three-run inning by the Dons with Nestor Linares driving in a run before Logan Roberts hit a two-run single. In the sixth inning, Ryan Aguilar led the frame off with a double to right before scoring on a RBI-single by Manuel Segura.

The Dons final three runs came in the seventh inning with Roberts hitting a solo home run on the first pitch of the inning before Cameron Baranek plated Troy Baird on a fielder's choice. Brown followed with a RBI-single that scored Christopher Ferret.

Anderson's grand slam led the way for the Dons as he finished 3-for-5 with four RBI while Brown and Roberts each finished with three RBI apiece.

On the mound, Evanne Wilkes (3-0) got the win in a controlled three-inning start. Wilkes allowed just one run on three hits with one strikeout. For the Pirates, Shawn Domke (1-1) took the loss as he allowed 10 runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings of work.
