Dons Cruise to 14-4 Non-Conference Win over West LA College

SANTA ANA - With the Orange Empire Conference on Spring Break, the Dons picked up a 14-4 non-conference victory over West Los Angeles College. The win improves the Dons to 22-11 on the season while West LA falls to 4-26.

The Dons scored in all but two innings, starting with right runs over the first four innings. Joshua Vargas scored the game's first run on an error in the first before Nestor Linares scored in the second on a Philip Anderson single.

West LA then scored in the top of the third to make the game 2-1, but the Dons answered with four runs in the bottom of the third to establish a 6-1 lead. The Dons four-run third came on just two hits as West LA committed two errors.

The Dons extended their lead to 8-1 in the fourth inning with Vargas scoring on a Cameron Baranek single before Alex Mascarenas plated Baranek with a sacrifice fly. West LA followed with two runs in the fifth inning before finally holding the Dons scoreless in the bottom of the fifth.

But the Dons offense bounced back with three runs in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run triple by Ryan Aguilar. The third run of the inning was scored by Aguilar on an error.

Both teams capped off the scoring in the eighth inning with West LA getting a solo home run before the Dons scored twice. The first run came in on an error before Troy Baird singled in Cesar Serna.

James Roll (2-0) picked up the win in a controlled start. He allowed just one run on four hits in four innings of work while also striking out five batters. Sam Mason (1-7) took the loss as he allowed nine runs, six earned, on seven hits over 5.1 innings.
