Dons Use Big Fourth Inning to Defeat Orange Coast College 11-3

SANTA ANA - The Dons evened their Orange Empire Conference record to 5-5 following their 11-3 win over Orange Coast College in five innings. The win gives the Dons (15-7) the season series over the Pirates (2-19, 0-10) after they handed OCC a 16-5 loss on February 22.

The first run of the game came across in the first inning after Danielle Hernandez doubled to left field before eventually coming around to score on a RBI-single by Sabrina Perez.

The Dons extended their lead to 2-0 in the second inning when Kelsey Choate singled in Mina Pavao who singled earlier in the inning.

The Pirates answered with a run in third inning when Caitlin Kelley led the frame off with a single, moved to third on a single by Jessica Amaral before scoring on Jessica Morrow's RBI-single.

But the Dons would put the game away in the fourth inning with nine runs on six hits, while also aided by a Pirate error. Alexandra Perkins had five RBI in the frame as she hit a pair of doubles. Hernandez, Karina Rosas, Pavao and Genna Main each had one RBI apiece in the inning.

Coast would add two more runs in the top of the fifth inning on a pair of RBI-singles by Kristin Nance and Logan Springer.

Devon Rodriguez (7-1) picked her second win in as many days as she held the Pirates to one run on five hits over four innings. Crystal Ornelas (2-6) took the loss for OCC as she allowed 11 runs, six earned, on 13 hits over four innings.

The Dons travel to Cypress College on Friday for their next game. First pitch is at 2:00 p.m.
