Dons Outlast Fullerton College 4-2 to Snap Two-Game Skid

SANTA ANA - The Dons grabbed sole possession of fourth place in the Orange Empire Conference as the defeated Fullerton College 4-2 while Saddleback College lost to Riverside City College 2-0. The two teams face off on Friday at SAC at 2:00 p.m.

Fullerton (8-22, 4-10) grabbed the first lead of the game when Shaylynn Chapman hit a solo home run with two outs in the first inning. The Dons (17-10, 7-6), however, didn't take long to claim their first lead of the game in the bottom of the first inning.

Danielle Hernandez led the frame off with a walk before Alexandra Perkins singled through the left side. Two batters later, Sabrina Perez hit a two-run single that score Hernandez and Perkins to put the Dons up 2-1.

The Dons extended their lead to 3-1 in the second inning. Mina Pavao reached on a fielder's choice before stealing second base. Eryn Martinez pushed a bunt over the pitcher's head for a double that scored Pavao.

Fullerton cut the Dons lead to 3-2 in the third on a Dons error. Felisha Gomez hit a two-out single before eventually scoring when Chapman reached on an error.

But the Dons would get that run back in the bottom of the third inning. Devon Rodriguez hit a leadoff single before taking third on a Perez single combined with a Fullerton error. Rodriguez came in to score when Karina Rosas singled to right field.

Rodriguez (9-3) also picked up the win for the Dons as she held the Hornets to two runs, one earned, on five hits over five innings. Chantal Oelrich earned her second save of the season as she held Fullerton hitless over the final two innings. Alyssa Felipe (4-6) took the loss for Fullerton after allowing four runs, all earned, on seven hits over six innings of work.
