Dons Rally Late Before Falling in Extra Innings to Cerritos

For the second season in a row, the Dons were handed their first loss of the season by Cerritos College. This year, after starting 5-0, the Dons fell 10-7 in eight innings to the Falcons.

Cerritos (5-1) jumped out to a 7-0 lead with six runs in the fourth with another run in the fifth inning on a Briana Quintana home run. The Falcons lead was also in part to Lily Cornejo holding the Dons without a hit through four innings.

Alexandra Perkins ended that streak in the bottom of the fifth when she followed Rachel Prentice's lead-off walk with a bunt single. That was enough as the Dons rallied for six runs in the inning.

Keila Tenorio, who led the Dons in their win on Tuesday, highlighted the inning with a two-run single. Angelica Cesena and Kristen Hooper also had an RBI apiece in the inning.

The Dons tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning when Prentice hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring Kristen Hooper who led the inning off with a single.

However, Cerritos came back with three runs in the top of the eighth before holding the Dons scoreless in the bottom of the inning to pick up the 10-7 win.

Kaitlyn Hooper recorded her first loss of the season after allowing 10 runs, six earned, on 13 hits in eight innings. Cornejo got the win despite 10 walks for Cerritos after allowing six runs, four earned, on eight hits.
