Offense Bounces Back in Dons 9-2 Win over Citrus

A day after the Dons were held hitless in their 1-0 win over Fullerton College, Alexandria Perkins made sure that wouldn't happen again. Perkins led the Dons 9-2 win over Citrus College (8-5) off with an infield single, the first of nine hits for the Dons (10-4).

Angelica Cesena followed with a walk before Hannah Dowling drove in Perkins with a single. Keila Tenorio then plated Cesena when she hit a RBI-ground out to second base, giving the Dons a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Tenorio put the Dons up 3-0 in the third with a sacrifice fly with Cesena again scoring on the play. The bottom of the Dons lineup got involved in the fourth inning, started by Kaitlyn Hooper's lead off walk.

Genna Main followed with a single through the right side before Cheyanne Tovar reached on a fielder's choice. Melissa Biddle came in to pinch hit in the next at bat and reached on an error, allowing Becky Poirier, who was running for Hooper, and Tovar to score.

The Dons scored two more runs in the inning with Dowling driving in Cesena, who walked, and Eryn Martinez, who was running for Biddle, with a single to right-centerfield.

Main drove in the Dons eighth run in the fifth inning when she reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Kristen Hooper who led the inning off with a single. The Dons final run came in the sixth inning when Perkins led the inning off with a triple before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Alexis Ontiveros.

The Fighting Owls runs came in the fourth and sixth innings respectively. Devin Dean doubled in Lauren Vargas in the fourth before Carissa Bender hit a RBI-ground out in the sixth that plated Dean.

Taylor Burks improved to 2-0 on the season as she allowed just one run on two hits over five innings. She started the game, pitching four innings, before finishing what she started by getting the final three outs of the game in the seventh.
