Late Offensive Surge Leads Dons Past Hawks 4-0

After managing just five base runners in five innings, the Dons (11-5, 3-3) sent all nine batters to the plate and scored four runs in the sixth inning to defeat Santiago Canyon College (SCC) 4-0 in an Orange Empire Conference game.

Terry Rahe had been pitching a solid game for the Hawks (9-13, 3-3) prior to the sixth inning. But Becky Poirier led the frame off with a single before Keila Tenorio reached second on a Hawks error. Poirier, who advanced to second on a wild pitch prior to the error, scored the game's first run on the play.

Kristen Hooper then reached on a bunt single, advancing Tenorio to third before Angelica Cesena hit a RBI-single that scored Tenorio. Now with the Dons leading 2-0, Cheyanne Tovar hit a sacrifice fly that scored Hooper.

Cesena eventually came around to score the game's final run when Sonia Florido reached on an infield single.

On the other side of the ball, Taylor Burks faced the minimum amount of batters through three innings before a leadoff double in the fourth inning ended her day. Burks left the game with a no-decision while holding the Hawks to just two hits.

Kaitlyn Hooper (8-4) then took the mound for the Dons and picked up the win after holding SCC scoreless for the next 3.1 innings. Hooper was then replaced by Poirier with one out in the seventh. Just two pitches into her outing, Poirier got Morgan McGee to line into a double play to end the game.
