Dons Lose to Palomar 9-5 After Giving Up Early Lead

The Santa Ana College (SAC) softball team fell behind 5-0 early and was never able to come back against visiting Palomar College. The undefeated Comets went on to defeat the Dons 9-5 in the non-conference game.

Palomar scored five runs in the second inning on four hits with the aid of a Dons (6-3) error as well as a pair of walks. The Comets opened the frame with three-straight base hits.

The Dons cut Palomar's lead to 5-4 with a pair of runs in the second and third inning. The Dons first run came on a rundown after Rachel Prentice hit into a fielder's choice before Samantha Abrahamson singled to right, scoring Prentice.

Hannah Dowling plated the Dons third and fourth runs with her two-run double to centerfield in the third inning. Alexandra Perkins and Angelica Cesena scored on the play.

However, Palomar would add three runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth to establish a 9-4 lead. Prentice scored for the Dons in the sixth inning on Perkins' RBI-ground out but it wasn't enough as the Dons fell 9-5.
