Dons Struggle Offensively in 5-2 Loss to Riverside

The Dons had their four game Orange Empire Conference win streak snapped with a 5-2 loss to Riverside City College. In the loss, the Dons managed base runners in just two of the seven innings.

The Dons (21-12, 10-7) first hit of the game came with one out in the fourth inning after the first 10 batters were retired in order. During that same span, Riverside (22-8, 13-4) built a 4-0 lead on seven hits coupled with three Dons errors.

After Riverside extended its lead to 5-0 in the fifth inning, the Dons pushed their only two runs of the game across in the bottom of the sixth. Angelica Cesena drew a leadoff walk before Alexandra Perkins singled.

Keila Tenorio followed with a RBI-single that plated Cesena before Hannah Dowling hit into a double play, allowing Perkins to score from third. The Dons rally was cut short one batter later when Cheyanne Tovar was called out on strikes.

Kaitlyn Hooper (16-10) suffered the loss after allowing five runs, three earned, on 11 hits over seven innings. Nichole Zink picked up the win for Riverside with a complete game four-hitter. Zink allowed two runs while also striking out eight batters.
