Dons Drop Conference Game 8-2 to Cypress College

The Santa Ana College (SAC) softball team lost to visiting Cypress College 8-2 in an Orange Empire Conference game. The loss drops the Dons to 10-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play while Cypress improves to 8-1 overall and 5-0 in conference.

The Chargers put up two runs in the first inning after opening the game with five straight hits. Cypress extended its lead to 4-0 in the second highlighted by a triple by Jessica Reichner.

After the Chargers went up 6-0 in the top of the fourth, the Dons offense finally found a spark started with Hannah Dowling's one-out double. She scored on the next play when Keila Tenorio doubled to right-centerfield. Tenorio would come around to score later in the inning on a sacrifice fly by Kaitlyn Hooper.

But that would be the only offense of the day for the Dons as Cypress scored twice more, once in the fifth inning and again in the seventh inning.

Taylor Burks (2-1) suffered her first loss of the season after allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits in 1.1 innings pitched. Burks started the game before returning to pitch the seventh inning.

Stephanie Luhmann (2-0) picked up the win for the Chargers after holding the Dons to two runs on four hits over six innings.
