Dons Open Season with 6-2 Victory Over Santa Barbara City College

SANTA ANA - The Dons opened the 2014 season with a 6-2 victory over visiting Santa Barbara City College.

Alyssa Yglesias opened scoring in the game when she led off the first inning by reaching on a walk before coming around to score on a throwing error after stealing second and third base.

But Santa Barbara would come back to tie the game in the third inning when Celeste Acosta doubled before eventually scoring on an error.

The Dons would reclaim the lead in the fifth inning when Yglesias again reached on an error, this time allowing Paolena Comouche to score from second base. But the Vaqueros would tie the game against, this time at 2-2, when Alice Cen reached on an error before eventually coming around to score.

It was in the sixth inning when the Dons broke the game open, scoring four runs on just two hits while also getting the aid of a Vaquero error. Marissa Ross led the inning off with a walk before Keila Tenorio singled. After a sacrifice bunt by Annie Dowling advanced both runners, Danielle Hernandez plated Ross when she reached on an error.

Emily Whitecavage followed with a single before Natalie Wolf hit a RBI-groundout that scored Tenorio. Finally, Yglesias reached base on an error for the third time, allowing Hernandez and Whitecavage to score and put the Dons up 6-2.

Kirstin Gutierrez started the game for the Dons at pitcher, allowing one run on two hits in three innings. Frances Campoy (1-0) picked up the win as she pitched the final four innings in relief.
