SANTA ANA - The Dons defeated Golden West College 9-0 today in an Orange Empire Conference game as they got 13 hits on offense while holding the Rustlers to just two hits in five innings. The win lifts the Dons to 5-8 on the season and 2-1 in conference while Golden West falls to 2-10 overall and 0-4 in conference.

Christina McCullogh got the offense started with her two-run home run in the first inning that scored Kori Cochran, who reached on a bunt single. The Dons followed that with a five-run second inning to jump out to an early 7-0 lead.

Annie Dowling led the second inning off with a triple to right field before scoring on Tori Ferguson's double down the left field line. Ferguson would eventually score on a RBI-single by Mercedes Munoz for the Dons fourth run of the game.

After Emily Whitecavage reached on a bunt single, Cochran hit an infield single that plated Andrea Mendoza, who reached on an error earlier in the inning. McCullogh then hit into a fielder's choice, but an error on the play allowed Munoz to score from third. One more fielder's choice, this time by Katlyn Harvey, scored Whitecavage to cap the scoring in the second inning.

The Dons added a run in the third when Whitecavage singled to right field with an error allowing Munoz to score from first base. The final run of the game came in the fourth inning when Ferguson plated Vanessa Moreno with a sacrifice fly.

McCullogh's home run would have been enough offense for Victoria Franks as she pitched her fourth shutout of the season. Franks (5-6) gave up just two hits while striking out three batters to get the victory. Kiley Eskridge (2-5) took the loss for Golden West as she allowed six runs, four earned, on six hits in just one inning of work.
