#10 Dons Open Playoffs on the Road at #7 Mt. San Antonio College

The Dons were named the #10 seed for the upcoming California Community College Athletic Association Softball Regional Playoffs and will play at #7 Mt. San Antonio College. The opening series will be a best-two-out-of-three match up with game one on Saturday, May 2. The teams will meet again on Sunday, May 3 for game two with game three, if necessary, following game two. All game times will be announced once they are set.

Both teams finished in second place in their respective conferences with the Dons (24-13, 16-5) taking second place in the Orange Empire Conference behind Cypress College while Mt. SAC (29-11, 16-5) finished second behind El Camino College in the South Coast Conference.

This will be the second time the teams have met this season with Mt. SAC getting a 15-14 win over the Dons in the season opener. That game was played at Mt. SAC and featured a big rally by the Dons. After the Mounties took a 9-2 lead after the third inning, the Dons scored seven runs in the fourth to tie the game at 9-9.

Mt. SAC answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 12-9 before the Dons scored five runs in the fifth to take a 14-12 lead. But the Mounties rallied for two runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score at 14-14. Finally, in the bottom of the seventh inning, Mt. SAC got a walk-off single to end the game.

The last time these two teams met in the postseason was in 2012 with the Mounties winning the series 2-1 at home. The Dons forced a third game with 5-3 win in game two after Mt. SAC won the series opener 8-4. But the Mounties would close out the series with a 14-4 win in the deciding game.
