Tori Ferguson's Grand Slam Lifts Dons to 5-1 Win over Grossmont College

SANTA ANA – Behind a five-run first inning, the Dons defeated visiting Grossmont College 5-1 in a non-conference game. The win improves the Dons to 10-9 overall while Grossmont falls to 9-11-1 on the season.

The big first inning was started by Emily Whitecavage who led the frame off by being hit by a pitch before stealing second base. After the first out was recorded, Annie Dowling drew a walk before Christina McCullogh singled. Kori Cochran then reached on an error, allowing Whitecavage to score.

After Cochran reached, the bases were loaded for Tori Ferguson who hit a grand slam to put the Dons up 5-0. That would prove to be all the offense for SAC, but with Victoria Franks (10-7) on the mound, it was all they would need.

Grossmont did get one run across in the fifth inning, but that would be it as Franks held the Griffins to just two hits over seven innings. Nicole Balinger (9-8) took the loss for Grossmont as she allowed all five runs, three earned, on four hits.
