Dons Sweep Mt. SAC, Travel to Allan Hancock for Super Regionals

The #10 Santa Ana College Dons swept #7 Mt. San Antonio College in the California Community College Athletic Association Softball Southern Regional Playoffs opening round to advance to next weekend's Super Regionals. The Dons will take on #2 Allan Hancock College in game one of the Super Regionals on May 8 at Allan Hancock College.

Joining the Dons are a pair of Orange Empire Conference teams as the #9 Santiago Canyon College Hawks will play the #3 Cypress College Chargers in game two of the Super Regionals. The winners of games one and two will play each other in game three while the losers will face off in game four of the double elimination tournament.

The Dons advanced to the second round following their two wins over Mt. SAC this weekend. The first victory came in dramatic fashion as the Dons were forced to overcome a four-run deficit late in the game. The rally began with a three-run home run by Annie Dowling in the sixth inning before Katelyn Harvey tied the game in the seventh with a RBI-single. Finally, in the eighth inning, Kori Cochran drew a bases-loaded walk to force in the go-ahead run and give the Dons the 5-4 win.

Game two of the first round match up found the Dons in control for the majority of the game as they staked themselves to a 4-0 run in the first inning. The Mounties would get as close as 4-2 in the second inning before the Dons began to pull away before ultimately winning the game 13-3 in six innings.

This will be the second-straight year the Dons advance to the Super Regionals, after making it to the final day in last year's Super Regionals at Palomar College.
