Offense Leads Dons to 14-7 Victory over Fresno City

The Dons continued their early offensive surge with another big win. After putting up 14 runs on 14 hits in their last game, the Dons defeated Fresno City College 14-7 behind 13 hits.

The Dons scored one run in the first before Fresno (2-2) tied the game at 1-1 in the second. The Dons answered with four runs in the bottom of the second with Trevor Magno, Blake Walker, Andy Peterson and Tyler Madrid each getting one RBI in the frame.

A pair of unearned runs put the Dons up 7-1 in the third as Magno and Walker picked up their second RBI of the game. After the Rams scored twice in the fourth, Peterson drove in a pair in the fifth to extend the Dons lead to 9-3.

Fresno scored two more runs in the sixth after a Dons error to cut the lead to 9-5. But the Dons once again had an answer as Walker drove in Konnor Armijo and Adrian Garcia to put the Dons up 11-5.

The Rams pushed another run across in the seventh inning before Madrid hit a two-run home run that gave the Dons a 13-6 lead. Peterson, who led the inning off with a single, scored on Madrid's home run.

Walker scored on an error in the eighth inning before Fresno capped off the scoring in the ninth inning.

Madrid and Magno each fell one hit shy of hitting for the cycle. Magno started the game 3-for-3 with a triple, a double and a single before finishing 3-for-5. Madrid needed a triple to complete the feat after going 3-for-4.

Bryan Clough picked up the win for the Dons after going 5.2 innings. He allowed five runs, three earned, on five hits with six strikeouts. His counterpart, Andrew Wild, suffered the loss after allowing seven runs, four earned, on five hits in 2.2 innings pitched.
