Dons Stake Early Lead in Win over Allan Hancock

The Santa Ana College (SAC) baseball team picked up its first win of the season a day after being shutout by Palomar College. The Dons bounced back with a 14-6 win over Allan Hancock College in their first home game of the season.

The Dons (1-1) jumped out from the get-go with four runs in the first and three runs in each of the second and third innings. Dylan Jones highlighted the first inning with a two-run home run with Konnor Armijo hitting a three-run home run in the second.

Adrian Garcia had the big hit in the third inning driving in Tyler Madrid and Armijo with a double. Madrid had the other RBI of the third with his single up the middle that scored Blake Walker.

The Bulldogs (1-1) rallied for six runs in the top of the fifth to cut the Dons lead to 10-6. Half the runs came on one swing of the bat when River Stevens hit a three-run home run.

The Dons added one run apiece in the fifth and sixth innings. Jones picked up his third RBI of the game with a single to left field in the fifth that scored Madrid before JB Bryant drove in Trevor Magno with a sacrifice fly.

The final two runs of the game came in the bottom of the eighth inning started by a lead-off walk by Geoff Schuller. Magno reached on an error later in the inning before Walker plated Schuller with a double. Magno scored the final run of the game on a RBI-groundout by Taylor Mata.

Jarret Porter started the game on the mound for the Dons. He allowed three runs despite holding the Bulldogs to just one hit over four innings. Richard Diaz picked up the win for the Dons in relief, allowing three runs on five hits in 2.2 innings pitched.
