Dons Bullpen Bands Together in Win over Pasadena

The Dons capped off their set of non-conference games with a 7-4 win over Pasadena City College behind solid pitching from their bullpen. The win improves the Dons to 21-7 as they return to Orange Empire Conference action on Tuesday, April 10 against Irvine Valley College.

Offensively, the Dons got all of their runs in the first three innings after Pasadena (5-22) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Dylan Jones singled in Trevor Magno to tie the game in the bottom of the first before Konnor Armijo put the Dons up 2-1 later in the inning when he doubled in Jones.

The Dons extended their lead to 7-1 in the third inning despite the first two batters being retired in order. Tyler Madrid drew a walk before Jones was hit by a pitch. Armijo then struck out but reached on a passed ball to load the bases.

Kyle Kuck followed with a bases loaded walk that forced Madrid home before JB Bryant hit a two-run double, scoring Jones and Armijo. Blake Walker capped the Dons scoring with a two-run single that scored Kuck and Bryant.

The Dons then turned the game over to their pitching staff as SAC threw seven pitchers in the game. Bruce Tolliver started the game, allowing one run on two hits in two innings before giving way to Bryan Clough.

Clough pitched two scoreless innings while allowing just one hit before Ryan Chapman took over on the mound. Chapman (1-0) picked up the win as he pitched the fifth inning, allowing one run on no hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

The Dons proceeded to throw Robert Hauser-Reyes, Travis Hawley, Richard Diaz and Matt Blanchard for one inning apiece to close out the game. Diaz continued to pitch well for the Dons as he struck out all three batters he faced.
