Dons Beat Los Angeles Pierce Behind Solid Pitching

After relying on their offense for their first three wins, the Dons (4-1) defeated Los Angeles Pierce College 7-3 behind a solid pitching performance by Garrett Wilson.

Wilson, who had made most of his appearances at closer, pitched seven innings against the Brahmas (0-4) allowing three runs on four hits with seven strikeouts in his first career start at Santa Ana College.

LA Pierce got to Wilson early in the game, scoring two of its three runs on two hits in the opening frame. Following that, however, Wilson allowed just two more hits over his final six innings.

The offense picked up its pitcher with a pair of runs in the third inning on Dylan Jones' double to right-centerfield. The Dons took their first lead of the game in the fourth inning when Andy Peterson hit a two-run double, scoring Brandon Baxter and Blake Walker.

The Dons final three runs came in the fifth inning with Baxter plating Tyler Madrid on a fielder's choice before Jones scored on a wild pitch. Konnor Armijo scored the final run of the inning when Walker reached on a fielder's choice.

The Brahmas final run came in the sixth inning when Kevin Torres hit a two-out home run. Wilson had retired six batters in a row prior to the home run and it was his first hit allowed since a lead off single in the third inning.

Wilson was backed up by two strong performances out of the bullpen. Kyle Kuck struck out a pair of batters in the eighth inning before Matt Blanchard struck out all three batters looking in the ninth inning.
